There are many good reasons to embrace lead-free bullets! And if you want to embrace them at the same time as you’re hunting with your 5.56x45 rifle, then Hornady Superformance is right where it’s at.

This cartridge is armed with a 55 grain Copper alloy eXpanding (CX) projectile. It’s monolithic – all copper – which means it hasn’t got a core and jacket that could splinter apart from each other during high-velocity penetration. The payoff is higher-than-normal weight retention; at least 95%, which ensures that the bullet stabs a deep wound into its target.

The CX certainly lives up to the “X” part of its name, as it gouges a broad wound into its target as well. And because the monolithic bullet is so streamlined, well balanced and clean shooting, it also delivers excellent accuracy. By Hornady’s measure, this round’s CX rips out of a 24” barrel at a rate of 3,175 fps. At that pace, its 0.270 G1 ballistic coefficient means that it will hit 200 yards without having to rise higher than 1.6” (assuming you’ve got your sights at 1.5”).
