20rds - 30-06 Federal Fusion 180gr. SP Ammo Details

Federal Premium is some of the most technologically advanced ammunition available to the modern sportsman. Manufactured by Federal, Fusion was the first line of rifle ammunition engineered specifically for deer hunting, and it remains one of the best whitetail loads on the market today. In head-to-head comparisons with the competition, Federal Fusion produces larger terminal expansion and superior weight retention across the board.

Each factory fresh .30-06 Springfield cartridge is topped with a 180 grain Fusion soft point projectile. Fusion bullets are manufactured by electrochemically applying a copper jacket to a lead core. This process results in amazing jacket uniformity and nearly eliminates the threat of core/jacket separation. This provides maximum weight retention for deep penetration and hard-hitting energy transfer. Fusion bullets also feature a skived, pre-programmed nose that produces reliable and consistent expansion for effective wound production and quick, humane kills.

This ammunition is 100 percent non-corrosive, boxer primed, brass cased, and fully reloadable. Each round produces a consistent muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 2913 foot pounds. Each package contains 20 rounds.

I had been looking for a soft point boat tail. For the price, I thought I would give them a try. I shot 3 deer. A 15 point at 80 yards broad side. I hit the 3rd rib. It dropped to its knees then trotted 50 yards before going down. It took out both lungs. Entry hole the size of a dime. Exit hole you could stick your fist in it. The second deer was a 150 pound doe. 30 yards facing me. I shot her where the neck joins her spine. The 180 grain bullet traveled completely down the splne and lodged in the tail. I recovered the bullet. It opened up into a complete flower petal. The 3rd deer was a 7 point. At 235 yards broad side. I shot it in the right shoulder. It dropped in his tracks. The 180 grain exited the opposite shoulder. The Exit hole was the size of a quarter. Great bullet. The only draw back was at 100 yards it would make a vertical group. The top 3 inches high. The bottom 1 inch high. Other brand bullets in the same gun, a 30.06 Remington 735, would stack the holes touching each other. Works good out to about 250 yards. Beyond that, the vertical group could be to much.
