500rds – 223 Rem Brown Bear 55gr. FMJ Ammo Details
It seems like everything costs money nowadays. Kid needs braces? Better have money. Hungry at the state fair? Better have a lot of money. Mother-in-law wants to go to Hawaii on vacation? Well, at least the solution to that one is pretty affordable. In any event, it’s always good to have more cash in your coffer, and that’s exactly why we carry this 223 Rem ammo by Brown Bear. It’s amazingly cost-effective, yet your AR is still going to love burning through it.Brown Bear takes their name from their distinctive colored casings. The color comes from a special lacquer that serves to facilitate feeding and ejection, as well as provide some protection against the elements. Bear in mind that this round’s affordability comes primarily from its steel casing. You’re not going to reload it, and some ranges won’t let you use it, but otherwise the setbacks are pretty minimal. This round is clean thanks to its full metal jacket projectile, non-corrosive Berdan primer, and propellant that ignites without soaking the bore in caustic residues. Pick up 500 rounds, and you’ll be certain to have good fun at the range!

I've been shooting brown bear for the last 3 years. Thousands of rounds, zero fails. Good cheap ammo. Would recommend to anyone.

I bought and shot 500 rounds of this through a Colt LE6920 Carbine. Not one Malfunction of any kind. I did everything you can think of to see if there would be a problem brass and steel ammo mixed in same mag, slow fire , rapid fire ect. I do clean my weapons. The only thing I noticed different was the steel cases throw to the rear and the brass cases land more to the side or forward. Maybe the empty cases have different weights? Will buy again.

I just cleaned my Ruger 556 after shooting 500 rounds this ammo (plus 200 Federal) and was going to upgrade the extractor.
No need at this time. I did not see any excessive residue particles or wear and tear, and nothing jammed. I'd rather save money shooting brown bear. This is what they mean by more bang for the buck. -

I bought this ammo because of the price. I was taking a class and needed 600 +/- rounds. The problem is these bullets have steel jacketed projectiles which are not allowed in most training our ranges which border brush areas. Just a heads up because the tech specs don't mention it.

No problems with this ammo whatsoever. Shot through 2 AR's and 1 bolt action. Shipping is the best. Love ATG. Will buy again.

This .223REM rifle ammo is great for practice and defense. The "laquered case melting" is just mythology. I have blasted through 500+ rounds with my AR15 rifle hot. If your AR15 extractor has been upgraded with the rubber ring and +power spring kit, you will have zero problems.

Brown Bear (Lacquered) ammo works very good on semi auto and bolt actions. I fact people talk a lot about the Lacquered ammo funking/gunking up a gun. I have a two bolts one is the cheap but very nice Savage.223 bolt, I have had un-lacquered ammo steel case get stuck in the chamber to the point I have to remove it with a rod. I know people say cleaning issue, but no three time this has happened so I tested it I put 4 Brown bear lacquered in mag. chamber with no cleaning of chamber all 4 went in and out no problem, put a steel with un -lacquered round in stuck after the first shot.

Reason for the 5 star is that this ammo performs
well for what it is.
This is not hunting ammo.
Practice and even defense if the need arises.
The most important factor is reliability.
It functions just fine in my rifles of that chambering,
is plenty accurate enough for practice and defense.
I've read claims that the lacqured coating melts under rapid fire. My question for that scenero is WHY shoot a rifle that fast to get it that hot?
