25rds – 20 Gauge Rio Royal 2-3/4" 9 Pellet #1 Buckshot Ammo Details

Rio Ammunition makes a great shotshell. They craft every single one of their shells’ hulls, wads, propellant, shot, and primers out of raw materials, which affords them total control over their products’ quality, and as a subsidiary of MAXAM they’ve considerable resources and experience at their disposal. You even get the good feeling that comes from buying American when you invest in Rio, because they produce all of their shells in Marshall, TX.

This 20 Gauge shell is loaded with #1 buck. The shell’s consistently round and tough pellets deliver a dense and powerful spread at short to medium distances, and will prove plenty adequate for the task of capsizing a whitetail. You would also be well advised to choose #1 buck over double-aught for the job of home defense if you live near neighbors, as the .30” pellets are significantly less likely to bust through multiple layers of wallboard.

(Don’t be put off if these shells’ box says its shot is three-by-three -- that’s just an unusual way to refer to #1 buck in a 20 Gauge shell.)

The wad is plain, and the pellets aren't copper plated, so I didn't expect great patterns. Wrong. This shot tighter than the expensive Federal Personal Defense load. The length wasn't a problem, shot in a Caveman Tactical custom Mossberg 500 in 20ga.

Good Stuff. I used it in my Asylum Weaponry (think Shockwave). Though as mentioned it is a bit longer then most 20 gauge buckshot, I was still able to fit 5 in the tube easily. Shot patterns at 12 yards were slightly tighter and with less flyers than either of my go to loads, the Remington #3 and the Federal PD #4. Pleasantly surprised at this. Shell construction was consistant and there were no failures to fire. I will be buying more.

shoots nicely out of my Ithaca m37 defense shotgun.
no reliability issues whatsoever, slighty longer hull due to the crimp, a little tight fit for the final round into the mag....tight groups however and appears to be a good choice for practice or carry.

This is good stuff but I wish they would stop advertising it as 00buck. IT IS NOT. It's 9 pellets of #1buck (and possibly slightly undersized #1 at that). There's no way you could stack 9 pellets of 00 in a 20ga shell. Good stuff, but please stop the false advertising.
ATG Note: Thanks for the heads up, we fixed the listing to #1 Buck.

I bought a couple of boxes of this to run thru my H & R Compact Pump, and had no trouble with it at all. The powder smells a little weird, but it didn't seem to be any dirtier than Remington shells. As usual, there is a right end and a wrong end on every gun, and I would hate to be on the wrong end of these shells.
