Federal Ammunition 90 Grain Bonded Soft Point Ammo Details
Crafty hunters on the prowl for boar or deer as well as shooters who prefer a muscled up trunk gun will both love the performance of these 6.8mm SPC cartridges from Federal. The "GD" in "XM68GD" stands for Gold Dot and as such, each of these cartridges is equipped with a 90-grain Gold Dot soft point projectile from Speer (a sister company of Federal). Gold Dot bullets feature electrochemically bonded jackets which will not separate from their internal lead cores no matter the condition; this enables the bullets to deliver great terminal energy even after penetrating through light barriers, thick layers of clothing, and the tough exterior hide of wild hog. The projectile's soft point nose promotes wide expansion which won't fully develop until the bullet is within vital areas where it can deliver the most effective damage.90 grains is a relatively light weight rating for the 6.8mm caliber and offers higher velocity, deeper penetration, and slightly less felt recoil. Each bullet is crimped into a reloadable brass casing at its ribbed cannelure which serves to prevent dislocation, preserve excellent accuracy, and slow terminal expansion to an appropriate rate. Federal attaches a non-corrosive Boxer primer to base of each casing which can be relied upon to ignite the clean-burning powder inside. Federal Premium and its related companies are currently trusted to supply elite competitive shooters as well as diehard law enforcement agencies using nearly over eight decades of experience.

This load was developed for SBRs like the LWRC PSD and UCIW. It has low flash, light recoil and is still deadly at 250M even from an 8.5" barrel.
After several years of failure to stop situations with suicide bombers and assassins the king of Saudi Arabia armed his royal guard with 6.8SPC SBRs loaded with XM68GD based on US research data.
They're used to take down terrorists and assassins on an almost daily basis with no more FTS problems.
If you want "Hog Ammo" maybe this won't be your cup of tea but if you use 6.8SPC for self defense this is the right stuff. -

Great ammo should have gotten more at the price I paid. Went back up after my purchase.

Excellent ammo. Loaded righted up the power scale, and with a very effective bullet, terminally speaking. Makes very good hunting ammo, as well as for home defense or SHTF bug out use. That's why it's so hard to find now, and when found goes for a good bit. Got mine on a Black Friday sale, so wasn't as expensive.
My only issue is the Federal brass casing. Federal isn't known for the most durable cases, and if you reload, don't red line these cases, or the primer pockets will loosen up quickly.
Other than that, top rate ammo. Hope the Middle Eastern countries write another contract for more ammo. -

This round has its velocity measured from a 16" barrel the Fusion is out of a 20". I chronographed some of this ammo out of my 8.5" 1x7 twist bison barrel and it came to 2620 so out of a 20" barrel it will be closer to 3000 fps great ammo

The muzzle velocity listed in the description in incorrect, this stuff is very hot! I just chrono'd 20 rounds today using a LabRadar and the average velocity was 2839 fps from a 16" ARP barrel at 33 degrees F. This is excellent ammo for the price. Same stuff as Fusion 90gr for way less.

The velocity is wrong on here. They are the SAME round as the 90 gr fusions. They shoot at 2850 from a 16" on average. One of the best cartridges for the 6.8 from the factory.

This cartridge is loaded too light for the bullet weight. Federal Fusion 90 gr is loaded to +2,800 fps at the muzzle. You are better off buying the Fusion cartridge for the money.
