More About 9x19 Ammo

Various 9mm Names

  • 9mm Luger
  • 9x19
  • 9mm Parabellum
  • Just, "9mm"

All of the above are the same cartridge. So, 9x19 and 9mm are the same ammo cartridge, as are 9mm and 9mm Luger.

However, 9mm Makarov (9x18) is a different caliber and not one you'll find on this page. Don't use the two interchangeably.

Common 9mm Ammo Picks

There are a few different ways to break down the different 9x19 ammo choices we have today. You can look at self-defense vs. training, which is essentially jacketed hollow point (expanding) ammo vs. full metal jacket (ball) ammunition. You can also look at some of the steel-cased options like Tula and Wolf compared to brass cased ammo like Federal, Winchester and Fiocchi.

Generally speaking, steel-cased ammo is cheaper but is not reloadable. Also, many shooters prefer to shoot brass because they believe it is easier on their pistol barrels. Of course, every experienced shooter generally reaches their own conclusion about what ammo is best for their needs and with practice, you will too!

    I think the ammo is awesome. I had originally bought it after reading an article about it unique design, and thought it was a bit of a novelty item. However, after looking at its tested ballistic performance I think I will always have some around. It performs as expected, but I have only fired a few rounds at the range. I hope I don't ever have to use it for real, but if the situation demands it, I feel it would be extremely effective.

    I use cci blazer in all the GSSF matches I have never had a single round fail to fire! I am sure I shot over 5000 rds.very accurate I have won 6first place plaques and 2 Glock pistols.a 43x and a 17L.CCI BLAZER Is all I will ever use.highly recommend

    Love the fact that this ammo burns for the first 18 inches. Does not work well for night shooting due to flash blindness from flash.
