458 SOCOM

The 458 SOCOM (aka 11.63x40mm) was developed after Task Force Ranger reported that the 5.56x45 hadn’t reliably done its job during Operation Gothic Serpent. It’s a thumper concept cartridge, designed to push a big, heavy (250 to 600 grain) .458 cal bullet through an AR-15 rifle. The 300 grain round’s 1,900 fps muzzle velocity gives it comparable performance to a light 45-70 Government load.
