200rds – 223 Rem Hornady Critical Defense 73gr. FTX Ammo
Hornady Ammunition 73 Grain Flex-Tip-Technology (FTX) Ammo Details
This cartridge by Hornady Critical Defense is just what you want if you keep an AR-15 or any other weapon chambered for 223 Rem handy for self-defense. Its 73 grain projectile is more than one third heavier than what its caliber most often calls for, so it’s inherently able to penetrate deeply. What’s more, its bullet is an FTX with Hornady’s patented Flex Tip, which guards the hollow point nose cavity against jamming up with debris before it can expand. The Flex tip is also positioned in such a way that it does a lot to help expansion take place even at lower velocities. The FTX’s core is made of a singular piece of high antimony lead. It’s locked to its heavy jacket via an InterLock ring, so the bullet is able to hold on to very much of its substantial weight as it expands within the target, further improving the depth to which it can reach.
A self-defense round has got to be reliable. This one is thanks not only to Hornady’s devastating bullet, but also its nickel plated brass casing which will stave off corrosion. You can especially count on this round in the dark, as its propellant is treated to limit muzzle flash in order to preserve your night vision.
