Hornady’s Critical Defense line is specially engineered for personal defense, providing unmatched threat-stopping performance.

This Critical Defense ammunition for 410 gauge shotguns features a unique Triple Defense projectile column consisting of two 35 caliber round balls topped with a patented FTX slug. Delivering effective shot patterns that place each of these three projectiles on man-sized targets, these loads are highly lethal at 7 yards, the distance most armed self-defense responses occur.

Each 2 ½ inch shotgun shell features a non-jacketed 41 caliber FTX rifled slug. Designed to engage rifling in the gun’s barrel, these unique slugs make target contact nose-on allowing the patented Flex Tip to initiate massive expansion. Two 35 caliber round balls are also incorporated into each load. These balls are made of high antimony, cold swaged lead which resists deformation to deliver deep penetration.

This ammunition is non-corrosive and factory fresh. Each round produces a velocity of 750 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 294 foot pounds.

Really tight groups from my S&W Governor. Shot them alongside some 45 LC & ACP with Moon Clips.

Basically any 410 will handle this self defense load just fine. Just remember your 410 will not only handle the shot load, it will also handle a 45cal JHP shell. I shot thesevat my range yesterday. This a great shell with close enough grouping to take down a predator or a zombie. The kick is minimal but a firm grip is needed. The mt shells extract easily. I would buy again.

These rounds work well in a Taurus Judge and they do NOT jam or get stuck in the cylinder after firing like some other shells. They take a little bit more pressure on the extractor to remove than the Federal .410s but they do eject without much effort. Shot 50 of these through my Judge today with no problems.
