Sig Sauer 124 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Ammo Details
Sig Sauer doesn’t just make the Army’s newest standard issue 9mm pistols. The old European company also makes this premium self-defense ammo – right here in the USA. Give this ammo a shot if you carry a Sig pistol, or any other 9mm sidearm you’d entrust your personal safety to!Sig Sauer loads their Elite Performance pistol round with a jacketed hollow point bullet of their own design. It is the V-Crown, which combines a unique stacked hollow point nose cavity and precision-skived copper jacket to secure swift and decisive terminal expansion at high and low velocities alike. The V-Crown’s toothed cannelure helps to keep its seating depth unchanged while the cartridge is jerked back and forth during recoil. The cannelure also embeds the jacket inside the lead core; a feature that promotes more consistent penetration depth by reducing core/jacket separation.
This ammo’s non-plated brass cases hold special charges of propellant. It’s formulated to minimize muzzle flash, which helps keep the shooter’s eyesight acclimated to the dark.

As you hunt for the best self-defense 9mm Luger (9x19) ammo, we thought you might enjoy seeing the results of some testing we recently conducted with calibrated Clear Ballistics gelatin.
We shot five of these Sig Sauer rounds through a four-layer cloth barrier using a S&W M&P Shield. The results are detailed in the video you see above as well as the photographs. Through the charts, you should get a great idea how this Sig Sauer ammo stacked up relative to other 9mm Luger (9x19) ammo products available to American shooters.

I've used this almost exclusively in my carry gun, mostly because it was what was available during much of the pandemic ammo shortage. Never had any issues with it in my gun. It has fairly standard recoil, and I think the test results speak for them selves.

Under a controlled test, this ammo had lot of variability in penetration depth (6”) and velocity (39 FPS) with only 5 shots tested. Expansion is consistent. Other ammo is certainly more consistent.

This ammo performs as advertised. I tried both 9mm and 380 loads and both works as advertised. Expansion was impressive and the bullet held together very well despite not being bonded. I used stacks of waterlogged magazines as a test medium.
