“Barrier blind” performance -- it’s often touted, but seldom achieved as well as a Speer Gold Dot projectile. This 45 ACP cartridge’s 185 grain projectile begins life as an alloyed lead core, which is then electrochemically bonded to its copper jacket one molecule at a time. This makes them virtually inseparable. The FBI test protocol speaks for itself -- pretty much only safety glass will cause this Gold Dot to lose any significant portion of its weight as it penetrates it, and even then it only loses about 10 grains. That means your target will have a heck of a time trying to take cover from your fire.The Gold Dot’s hollow point nose cavity is formed over the course of a two stage process that preprograms it for intensely reliable expansion. Wall board, plywood, and thick fabric alike can’t deprive this Gold Dot of its ability to extend six deadly petals as it passes through a soft target. This round’s reliability is further ensured by its smooth cycling and corrosion resistant nickel plated brass casing, CCI Boxer primer, and select propellant.

Gel test Results
We tested this Speer 45 ACP (Auto) ammo by firing five rounds with a Ruger SR45 with a -inch barrel into calibrated Clear Ballistics gelatin. Of those five rounds, we discovered the ammo penetrated an average of 12.04-inches into the gelatin. Our test rounds ended the test with an average expanded diameter of 0.714-inches, retaining 100% of the projectile's original weight.
