Winchester Ammunition 40 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Ammo Details

Do you like to tuck an NAA derringer behind your ear in case your primary weapon falters when you most need it? Do keep an S333 Thunderstruck ready to go so you unleash two shots with a single trigger pull? Or if you don’t like the 22 Magnum for personal protection, does it fit into your standard approach for dealing with varmints? All the same, you’ll find Winchester’s PDX1 ammunition well worth your time.

This round’s 40 grain bullet is no simple jacketed hollow point. Its core and jacket are welded together so it can retain the momentum needed to satisfy the FBI test protocol’s criterion for penetration, and it is furthermore notched to promote expansion up to 1.5 times its original diameter. While a 22 WMR will never deliver the same kind of devastation as, say, a 9mm, the PDX1 label maximizes the potential of a rimfire round.

This round is somewhat unique for a 22 WMR in that its brass case is nickel-plated. Nickel creates less friction as it cycles through a semi-auto, and also slides out of a revolver or derringer’s chamber far more easily. Throw in Winchester’s snappy primer and uniform propellant charge and you’ve got one angry bee of a round to have on your side when things turn grim – or just you when you run into a squirrel.
