The 222 Remington Magnum (aka 222 Rem Mag) was originally developed for use in the AR-15. It failed to reach commercial success after the U.S. Army officially adopted a slightly different cartridge. It is inordinately difficult to find factory loaded 222 Rem Mag nowadays, although DRS occasionally makes it available to the commercial market.
