8 x 50R LEBEL
The 8x50mmR Lebel (aka 8x51R Lebel) is the world’s first smokeless propellant cartridge. (It is not to be confused with the 8mm Lebel, a revolver cartridge.) The French Army’s Lebel Model 1886 rifle was capable of firing a 231 grain spitzer bullet at a muzzle velocity of ~2,300 fps – quite impressive for its time. Factory loaded 8x50mmR Lebel ammo still occasionally comes over from Europe thanks to manufacturers like Prvi Partizan.
